3rd Grade Art: Transformed Places Inspired by Abelardo Morell

In the next few weeks, 3rd graders will be starting an exciting new project inspired by the photographs of Cuban American artist Abelardo Morell. Morell, whose work is currently on display at the High, turns entire rooms into cameras obscura, then photographs them. The resulting photographs (which show a flipped image of the view from outside the rooms' windows) are surreal and imaginative depictions of everyday places.

Camera Obscura: Santa Maria della Salute in Palazzo Bedroom, Venice, Italy, 2006

Camera Obscura: View of the Brooklyn Bridge in Bedroom, 2009

Camera Obscura: View of Midtown Atlanta Looking South in Conference Room, 2013

Stay tuned to see how the 3rd grade artists re-imagine and transform places that they see every day!
